SURS Disability

Eligibility

Employees who have exhausted all of their payable benefits through Illinois State University may be eligible to receive a SURS disability benefit.

To be eligible for the benefit an employee will have to be medically approved by SURS and meet the following qualifications:

  • Have two years of service credit with SURS. There is no minimum service credit required for disability benefits if you become disabled due to an accident.
  • Be unable to perform their job duties due to an illness
  • Be disabled for longer than 60 days (or for as long as it takes for payable benefits to be exhausted, whichever is greater)

Applying for SURS Disability

To apply for SURS disability, employees must first complete the FMLA application process and exhaust all of their payable benefits. For more information, please review the FMLA/Medical Leave information or contact your Benefits Counselor at (309) 438-8311.
